If it is a vice to revel in the unsettling beauty of Grace Ling’s latest New York Fashion Week runway, then we don’t want to be saved. The Spring/Summer ’27 Oddities collection explores Ling’s signature design style while redefining femininity as we know it.

From a parting between the strikingly white willow tree set design, the opening couture look captures the essence of dangerous beauty. Revealing chrome leaves sit gracefully across the bust and waist, followed by a moss-green asymmetrical skirt, and styled with a silver chrome apple in hand. The Adam and Eve inspired look provides food for thought and sets the tone of the show: dark, feminine edge.
Playing between the spectrum of masculine and feminine is not a new concept, yet Ling makes the femme fatale motif feel modern again through juxtaposing elements: sharp claw-like nails (a hallmark for Ling) paired with a soft and smoky glam. Sexy silhouettes complemented by metal scorpions wrapping around the body and fabrics. Over the course of 32 looks, a slightly haunting but alluring energy stalks through the air, whispering notes of elegance with every ensemble.

The contradictions continue in the light and dark of garment fabrication. A mosaic of deep browns and maroons beautifully fracture the main palette of blacks, whites, and grays. Silver metal hardware acts as both the finishing touch and foundation, a Grace Ling signature to any look.
Favorites include a white sheen dress, burned on its edges to reveal an umber-colored sheer bottom and ethereal corseted detailing peeking out at the bust. Per the iconic stylist, Patti Wilson, no accessories were needed for this look, with the exception of the model’s talons.

Leather, silk, and beautifully draped fabrics build into the vampiric romantic lore, while others innovate the storyline. Power dressing is at play in the Grace Ling world, but with a bite. A common thread throughout the line is a silk organza fabric that fades from a traditional gray pinstripe to black, patterned into pants sets, a bralette, and a structured blazer dress.
A modern female Icharus, the finale is the only other couture look, with two silver metal ravens wrapping around the bust and waist and along the model’s head, ever so slightly shielding her eyes from the world. The sculptural pieces are paired with a simple white floor length skirt, regally being held up at the waist by the raven’s claw.

For a collection playing between two ends at odds with each other, it harmonized together like yin yang. The last look feels like both a warning and a poised conclusion; don’t fly too close to the sun, and don’t feel the pressure to pick between masculine or feminine.
