Diya Joukani on Chopova Lowena, Hugo Spritzes, and Throwing a Fit

There are people who attend fashion week, and then there are people who seem built for it. Diya Joukani falls firmly into the latter camp.

 

The India-based designer behind DiyaDiya and one of our favorite resident cool-girls has cultivated a world as irreverent and instinctive as her own wardrobe, making her something of a poster girl for a new generation of fashion. For Joukani, getting dressed isn’t reserved for the front row, but deeply entwined with her self-expression. So, naturally, we followed her to Chopova Lowena.

For Spring/Summer 2027, designers Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena once again invited us into their wonderfully specific universe, where the codes of girlhood, craft, and British subculture happily coexist. Staged in a bowling alley, the runway carried Chopova Lowena’s signature eccentricity, this season filtered through the otherworldly creatures of Slavic folklore and a distinctly witchy sensibility.

 

Even its darker references came with a playful streak. Neon hues, mixed-material prints, and dogs trotting down the runway kept the collection firmly rooted in the duo’s offbeat sense of fun. Amid the churn of London Fashion Week, Chopova Lowena offered a welcome reminder of the value in building a world entirely your own, one that doesn’t need to be so firmly tethered to reality—as proven by Joukani’s custom look for the show.

From getting dressed and heading to the show to spotting some particularly well-dressed dogs, Joukani takes TEETH along for the ride, then gives us her London Fashion Week download below.

TEETH: What’s in the air at London Fashion Week right now? What’s exciting you, inspiring you, or just making you want to get dressed?

DJ: With McQueen back on the calendar and London showcasing so many new designers, the energy is incredible. There’s this mix of established houses and emerging talent that makes it feel really exciting to be here right now.

But as a designer, I throw a fit on every day, fashion week or not. I’m really about this lifestyle.

What do you love about Chopova Lowena? Is there something about the world Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena create that you particularly connect with?

I love how true they are to themselves. Their clothes don’t look like anybody else’s. You can immediately recognize a Chopova Lowena piece because the language is so distinctively theirs, and that’s something I really respect, especially as a designer myself.

Give us your immediate post-show download. What did you love, and what are you still thinking about?

Honestly? The dogs wearing little outfits at the show. So cute. That’s probably the image that’s going to stay in my head.

Fashion week can be equal parts fantasy and frenzy. What’s one thing you do to make it feel fun and actually enjoy being in the middle of it?

I’m lucky enough that I’ve made really good friends in the industry, so popping out to shows and parties with them is probably the best part. Fashion week can obviously get really hectic, but when you’re running around with people you genuinely like, it doesn’t feel quite so serious.

It’s the end of the night and we’re ordering one last drink. What are you having, where are we going, and are you still in the fashion week look?

A Hugo Spritz. Maybe at The Haggerston, or honestly just whatever bar closest to my hotel is still open. And by the end of the night, I’m always in DiyaDiya, regardless of what shows I attended that day. I stay repping my own designs, always.
