Before they became suitcase colors, Umber and Ultramarine belonged to the artist’s palette. Rimowa’s latest additions to its Essential and Groove collections draw on that history, pairing an earthy brown with a saturated blue in a campaign starring Joe Alwyn.

The English actor takes on the role of a young artist settling into a new studio, gradually making the space his own. As his work takes shape, the pigments begin to inform his surroundings and daily rituals, tracing the relationship between color and the creative process.

Umber takes its name from the natural pigment often used as a painting’s foundational layer, while Ultramarine references the lapis lazuli-derived blue prized by Renaissance artists. Applied to the Essential collection’s grooved polycarbonate shells, both shades extend across the handles, zippers, and wheel housings for a monochromatic finish.

The palette also reaches Rimowa’s leather accessories, including a new Groove Mini Shopping Bag in both colors. Made in Italy from calfskin with palladium hardware, the compact silhouette can be carried by hand or worn with its removable strap. Umber joins the Cross-Body Bag Small and Zipped Pouch, while Ultramarine appears on packing accessories.

Luggage is often an extension of ourselves; here, it becomes an artist’s manifesto.
