Anna Sui Channels '70s Romanticism for Spring/Summer 2027

Anna Sui’s Spring/Summer 2027 collection started with a rabbit hole. While flipping through a 1970s issue of Vogue in search of an Avedon photograph of an Ara Gallant hairstyle, Sui instead found herself drawn to the paintings of Howard Gardiner Cushing hanging in the home of his daughter, Justine Cushing. What began as one search quickly became an entirely different point of inspiration.

That feeling became the starting point for “Wonderment,” a collection centered on curiosity, discovery, and the way one reference can lead into the next. Sui builds that idea through layers of florals, lace, crochet, satin, denim, lingerie, and embellishment, creating a wardrobe that feels accumulated rather than overly coordinated.

Romanticism runs throughout the collection, particularly through its references to lingerie and the boudoir. Eyelet and crochet tunics are layered over skirts and capri pants, while camisoles, corselettes, and lace pieces appear throughout. A black Poiret Stripe pajama set is finished with frog closures, while an ombré plaid satin-stripe kilt is worn over chartreuse crushed velvet jeans and an iridescent mesh top, bringing a grunge-leaning edge into the mix.

Florals appear in nearly every form, from Garden Border and Anemone Crinkle Chiffon to rosebuds, lilies, and forget-me-nots. Mother-of-pearl paillettes, sequins, rhinestones, and iridescent mesh add another layer of texture and shine.

The collection also looks back to Sui’s own archive. In collaboration with Swarovski, she recreated a halter dress from her Spring/Summer 1995 Retro collection, originally worn by Trish Goff on the runway and later by Kate Moss for W. For Spring/Summer 2027, the dress returned on Scarlett White alongside new crystal-embellished pieces.

For Sui, “Wonderment” comes back to the pleasure of discovering something unexpected and following wherever it leads.
