Bonnie Clyde has built its world around the feeling of looking—at someone, through something, or back at yourself. Now, as the brand approaches its 10-year anniversary, Bonnie Clyde is bringing that point of view to New York with the opening of its first East Coast flagship.

Since its founding in Downtown Los Angeles in 2016 by Jonathan Yuan, the eyewear brand has developed a cult following for frames that revisit classic silhouettes with a more personal edge. Yuan, a second-generation eyewear designer, launched the brand with a balance of heritage craftsmanship and contemporary ease. Its visual language has always circled romance—hence the Bonnie Clyde moniker—but here, that idea becomes embedded in the space.
The new flagship looks to the character of old New York apartments.Designed in collaboration with Balcony Studio, the store, located on Grand Street, is arranged as a three-room railroad-style space rather than a conventional retail floor. Vintage furniture, wood, upholstery, acrylic, and aluminum are layered throughout, giving the store a sense of warmth and slight imperfection.

“Our challenge was bringing that warmth into a brand new space,” says Yuan. At a moment when experiential retail often becomes louder, brighter, and more overproduced, Bonnie Clyde takes the opposite approach. “There’s so much happening in retail right now,” Yuan adds. “We just wanted to make something that feels real.”

The first room is soft and sunlit, set against raw concrete floors and floral-print deadstock upholstery. From there, the second room moves into a warmer, more intimate register. Dark wood-paneled walls, reduced lighting, and antique cabinetry repurposed as display fixtures create a quieter atmosphere, one that feels more private and enclosed.

The final room, partially concealed until fully entered, is the largest and most industrial of the three. Framed by a long wooden portal, the space opens into aluminum-paneled walls, green acetate shelving, floor-length mirrors, soft drapery, and filtered light. If the first room suggests infatuation and the second intimacy, the last carries the strange clarity of an ending that is vulnerable and reflective.
Located at 328 Grand Street, Bonnie Clyde is open everyday from 11 AM – 7 PM. Learn more and plan your visit online.
