The Alchemy of the Everyday

Still-life photography has evolved from capturing inanimate objects to showcasing the beauty of everyday items, particularly food, through creativity and imagination. By focusing on food as the subject, this genre transforms ordinary, functional elements into artistic expressions, revealing the hidden beauty in simplicity.
In this series, everyday ingredients, like fruits and vegetables, become sculptural subjects, with meticulous lighting and arrangement highlighting their textures and colors. The camera lens magnifies their details, turning them into unique visual experiences that challenge the distinction between art and function.
This work also prompts reflection on our fast-paced, disconnected relationship with food and nature. The food depicted—such as cassava preserved in paraffin or withered kohlrabi—symbolizes life’s impermanence and the cyclical nature of growth and decay. These organic forms invite us to consider our connection to the earth and our shared life cycle.
Through this project, the beauty of the ephemeral is celebrated, offering a deeper appreciation of the earth’s generosity and the art found in the everyday. Ultimately, it reaffirms the power of imagination and reminds us to recognize art in unexpected places, reevaluating our relationship with food and life itself.
