Coco Hotel: Design-Driven Hospitality in the Heart of Copenhagen

Tucked along a quiet street in Vesterbro, Coco Hotel embodies a balance that hangs in the air throughout the Danish capital: sharp design softened by a seemingly ubiquitous effortlessness.

Boutique hotels have become the standard for travelers looking to experience a city beyond the guidebook. At Coco, that is the throughline of the experience. Check-in feels unexpectedly analog. Instead of tapping your phone or slipping a keycard into your wallet, you’re handed a traditional room key attached to an oversized brass fob and a tasseled cord. It’s a small gesture, but one that immediately sets the tone for a hotel that taps into an often forgotten thoughtfulness amidst the hotel industry’s knack for convenience.

That philosophy continues throughout the property. Following a recent redesign, the 89 guest rooms trade cool minimalism for something with a little more warmth. Oak, woven textiles, and diffused lighting replace the stark palette often associated with Scandinavian interiors, while keeping the clean lines that define Danish design.

Inside the newly redesigned rooms, every element feels intentionally placed, from the upgraded beds and generous seating areas to the tactile finishes that add warmth without clutter. Cozy by definition, the spaces feel personally curated, like you’ve stepped into someone’s home—the kind that invites a long lingering over a morning coffee, or to retreat to after a full day wandering Copenhagen’s galleries, vintage shops, and cafés.

At the center of the hotel is a leafy courtyard that becomes an extension of the lobby once the weather turns. In the conjoined lobby, Coco Café serves a classic Scandinavian breakfast of flaky pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit, cheeses, and strong coffee—all best enjoyed outside beneath the climbing greenery. By afternoon, the courtyard fills with guests lingering over wine and locals stopping in for a coffee, giving the hotel an energy that feels connected to the neighborhood rather than tucked away from it.

Coco is also part of the Cofoco hospitality group, whose restaurants have become fixtures of Copenhagen’s dining scene. Guests have easy access to everything from Mediterranean eateries to contemporary Nordic fare, though the recommended reservation is the neighboring Olise, whose playful take on neighborhood dining pairs seasonal cooking with an approachable wine list in a space that’s relaxed but still lively—especially after work hours.

Copenhagen and beautiful are practically synonymous, but what is often underrated about the city is the pockets of warmth that fill it. The same ethos goes for Coco: it gets the details right, creates spaces you’ll actually want to spend time in, and leaves you with the feeling that you’ve experienced a little more of the city than you would have otherwise.
