Nostalgia for era-defining countercultures perhaps best grounds the design identity of Our Legacy. For its Spring/Summer 2027 collection, the Stockholm-based brand, now 21 years into its journey, reaches back to the star-driven British subcultures of the late ‘90s.

Lensed by JH Engström, the collection is an Anglophilic love letter, written by creative director Cristopher Nying since his first visit to London in the early 2000s. Hence, signature British silhouettes like trench coats and Edwardian double-breasted coats appear throughout, reworked with modular constructions, slashed backs, and louche proportions.

Together with draped bombers and linen knit sweaters, the pieces contrast with the gentlemen’s-club tailoring of a bygone era, which featured shirts and vests with neatly sculpted and corseted details.

The graceful Victorian influences clash with hints of punk-inspired wear and tear, showing up in pieces like cocoon coats cut from floral fabrics and simple shirts finished with frilly ruffles. While frayed edges suggest a sense of elegant decay, military-inspired garments—including knitted tank tops once worn by soldiers—alongside camouflage and punk plaid motifs nod to a rebellious spirit. It recalls the history of repurposing military insignia as symbols of pacifism.

Elsewhere, shades of scarlet, vermillion, and crimson thread through the collection. The palette becomes a visual reminder of the color’s significance in British culture, from the King’s Guard uniforms to London’s iconic Route 149 buses.

A sound work created in collaboration with British filmmaker and musician Don Letts accompanies the campaign and further pays tribute to the cultural history that informs the collection. Currently, Letts’ bespoke audioscape permeates Our Legacy’s Paris showroom. Upon entering, visitors are invited to plug in a vintage Walkman and follow Letts’ narration through the new season.
