As Onitsuka Tiger returned to the fashion market in 2002—after a 25-year hiatus following the merger that formed ASICS—it seized the moment to recast itself as a luxury label. A year later, its yellow “Tai-Chi” sneakers in Kill Bill cemented that pivot. Today, the brand doubles down with a collaboration alongside Italian powerhouse Versace.

The collection reimagines Onitsuka’s classic TAI-CHI Sakura, giving it a contemporary spin with a sleek, low-top silhouette. Versace’s former creative director Dario Vitale drew on Onitsuka’s archives for the retro outsole while reflecting the Versace emblem in details like the Medusa stud at the tongue.

Each pair is finished with Onitsuka Tiger’s signature side stripes and buffed for a subtly worn, vintage texture. Offered in two-tone metallic leather, suede in green, blue, and brown, and napa leather iterations in white, yellow, black, and pink, the footwear brings together Italian materials under Japanese craftsmanship.

While the sneakers are crafted at the Sanin factory in Tottori, Japan, the TAI-CHI Sakura loafers find their footing in Italy. The style arrives in brown/blue and brown/white colorways, packaged in soft vegetable-tanned calf leather and finished with a waxed treatment for added depth and shine. Elsewhere, Onitsuka stripes dash across the sides and a Medusa stud embellishes the vamp for the loafers alike.
