Tessa Vermeulen grew up moving from place to place. Born in Hong Kong to Dutch parents, she was raised in the Netherlands before moving to Shanghai in her late teens. Some of her earliest memories of style—and what would eventually become the launchpad for her brand, Home of Hai—come from wandering through markets and small shops in Shanghai, where she lingered over displays of colorful silk and intricate embroidery.

“Living there really stayed with me,” the designer recalls. “There was a quiet richness to everything—nothing felt overdone, but everything felt considered. That way of looking at beauty has stayed with me and continues to shape how I design today.”
It’s this thoughtful sensibility toward effortless detail that propelled Home of Hai to collaborate with LA-based brand Brooke Callahan on a capsule collection. Known for her cotton poplin tie pants and skirts in a vibrant palette, Brooke Callahan too shares a similar design ethos rooted in crafting some easy, considered pieces.
“Brooke and I have always shared a love for effortless pieces that feel beautiful but easy to wear every day,” Vermeulen shares. “This collaboration felt very natural – bringing together her relaxed cotton silhouettes with Hai’s silk textures and small accessories.”

In this collection, Callahan’s signature silhouettes, like scrunchies, handbags, and slip dresses, are reimagined in Hai’s dupion silk. The material lends natural structure and texture without adding heaviness. Guided by a shared vision of simplicity and wearability, the duo pares back each piece to thoughtful details, like tie bows at the skirt waist or at the front of a dress.
“Working with Hai’s signature silks allowed me to create elevated versions of my everyday poplin favorites,” Callahan adds. “A little more dressed up, yet always down-to-earth and easy.”
